Food Analysis Integrity Study: Review of the 2011 drought response in Kenya

2013 — By Adele Harmer, Paul Harvey, Michael Odhiambo

Using four case studies from the 2011 drought response in Kenya, the Food Assistance Integrity Study by Transparency International Kenya analyses the impact of diversion and corruption on different types of food assistance. The study aims to enhance the accountability, efficiency and cost effectiveness of food assistance programmes in Kenya by analysing the impact of diversion. Taking interviews and surveys from several different actors, it studies the policy and institutional environment of food assistance programmes in Kenya. The study concludes with advice to several actors, setting out clear changes that each specifically needs to be making, to improve the integrity risks to food aid.
