Changing the mindset – turning theory into practice: Incorporating gender-sensitivity into linked humanitarian cash and social protection interventions

This is one of a series of webinars organised by the Grand Bargain Cash Sub Group, co-led by IFRC, UNICEF and FCDO to engage humanitarian actors with social protection by exploring the linkages between the two agendas and the design and implementation of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA).

19 August 2021
13:00-0:00

Zoom

The overall objectives of the Grand Bargain Cash Sub Group are as follows:

  1. To understand the scope of efforts underway on strengthening the link between social protection and humanitarian cash transfers;

  2. To seek opportunities to engage and add value to the current discussion and efforts;

  3. To initiate dialogue with development stakeholders on preparedness and response actions needed to support the link in times of crisis

The objective of this webinar is to highlight the challenges, gaps, and myths that are blocking the move from theory to practice in gender-sensitive aligned and linked humanitarian cash and social protection interventions.

The benefits of social protection and humanitarian actors working together in different ways across the “nexus” are well-recognised. In order to address the wide range of needs (in the last year, often pandemic-related), and particularly those of a socio-economic nature, the use of cash has been the response of choice for governments expanding their social protection systems as well as for humanitarian actors in a range of sectors.

This webinar, which will be structured as a panel discussion, provides the opportunity to hear from a range of humanitarian cash and social protection experts on the myths, challenges, gaps, and blockages that appear to be standing in the way of moving from theory to the practical implementation of linked or aligned gender-sensitive humanitarian cash and social protection responses. In spite of a growing number of resources and tools promoting the application of gender-sensitive approaches both in humanitarian cash and social protection responses, there is a need for improved understanding of how to put this into practice in linked interventions.
