Webinar series: Linking CVA & Social Protection through feedback Mechanism, Nigeria Case Study

This webinar is the second in a series of regional webinars designed to explore the linkages between humanitarian Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) and social protection in West and Central Africa. Following our initial regional webinar, “Exploring Linkages between Cash and Voucher Assistance and Social Protection in West and Central Africa,” the importance of linking humanitarian assistance with social protection became even more evident. However, practical implementation remains challenging. This webinar will focus on Nigeria, examining how linkages can be established in complex settings, with insights from the BAY states.

The webinar aims to investigate the potential of feedback mechanisms as a means to connect humanitarian CVA with social protection, enhance response efforts, and ensure accountability to affected populations.

The event will begin with an introduction from a representative of the Government of Nigeria (TBC). Researchers from BASIC will then present key findings from their recent study, “Targeting in Protracted Crises: Nigeria Case Study,” published in June 2024. This presentation will provide an overview of the Nigerian Social Protection programme developed over the past decade, establish a shared understanding of the context, and highlight future opportunities.

Following this, the webinar will delve into insights from Ground Truth Solutions and FACT Foundation’s latest report on community perceptions of cash assistance and resilience in northeast Nigeria. This presentation will set the base for the panel discussion.

Together with various actors, including the Government of Nigeria, Fact Foundation, ACF, WFP, and others (TBC), the panel discussion will explore how feedback mechanisms and community voices can enhance distribution methods, CVA programs, and social protection policies. There will be also discussions on how to strengthen the connections between humanitarian cash assistance and social protection. Key questions to be addressed include: Are feedback mechanisms valid entry points for linking humanitarian CVA and social protection? What specific levers exist in this context, and how can linkages be facilitated to better meet the needs and rights of the population?

The webinar will conclude with a wrap-up and final comments.
