Consultation process with local actors to develop CALP’s learning and training strategy

27 March 2023 — By CALP Network

To support the delivery of impactful, effective and high-quality cash and voucher assistance (CVA), CALP works with others to develop and deliver a variety of learning and training activities.

Learning activities are delivered via online-facilitated workshops, face-to-face trainings and self-driven online content. The materials are designed for diverse users with varying knowledge and experience, agency policy and protocol contexts, focus areas and roles relative to CVA.

CALP aims for its training offer to be as relevant and responsive to this wide variety of learners, and this starts with a sound understanding of their needs. In that spirit, the CALP Network conducted a study to understand the learning needs and preferences of local actors in three regions – Middle East and North Africa (MENA), West and Central Africa (WCAF), and East and Southern Africa (ESAF).

The study explored the views and preferences of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) relating to training accessibility and quality, and indicates how CALP should adapt its future learning and development strategies.

This study aligns with the wider conversation around structural and sectoral approaches to locally-led responses in CVA. Local actors highlighted challenges in unrestricted funding, and the inability to account for personal development within their organisational structure.

The consultation also confirmed the importance of creating inclusive and accessible spaces for local actors to share information, engage in peer-to-peer learning and coordinate communities of practice.

Please read the paper for a full account of the consultation, and the views of local actors.
